NEFCo receive 'Highly Commended' from Danny Kyle Open Stage at Celtic Connections 2015

The North East Folk Collective headed to Glasgow at the end on January when they heard they were successful in gaining a performance place on the Danny Kyle Open Stage at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.  It was great to have the whole Collective back together with many of the senior members / mentors now studying in Glasgow and Edinburgh.  Being on the Saturday, the Exhibition Hall was full to the brim and we had a fantastic time.  Many thanks to Liz, Celtic Music Radio and all who make the Danny Kyle Open Stage and Celtic Connections such a great festival to perform at!

NEFCo - FEIS SPE JOINT RESIDENTIAL WEEKEND

Eight members of the Folk Collective are off to Badaguish from 13th - 15th March to participate in their first joint residential weekend with young people from Feis Spe!  Feis Spe run workshops and camps for young people in Speyside, hopefully our North Easters will pick up a few gaelic phrases and teach the Speysiders a wee bit o Doric while they're there :-)  The workshops are being lead by Findlay Napier and Gillian Frame of the Bar Room Mountaineers!

NEWS FLASH

Sharon is really chuffed to have received a Made In Aberdeen Award from Aberdeen City Council in January this year in recognition of her work developing Gadie Music and the North East Folk Collective.  This means that she has been awarded a grant of £1000 to spend on purchasing recording equipment for use in communities in the City and Shire.  Sharon will also be able to record local musicians in her studio at home or at local halls, schools, parks or on top of Bennachie should they so wish.

The first project will be recording an EP for the North East Folk Collective in Summer 2014 - watch this space.

Gadie Music would like to thank Aberdeen Performing Arts for nominating Sharon for this award and Aberdeen City Council for supporting local musicians and artists in this way.
